T.38 is an ITU recommendation for allowing transmission of fax over IP networks in real time.  It is described in RFC 3362 and describes how to send a fax over an IP data network.

T38 is needed because fax data can not be sent over an IP network.  T38 works by converting a fax to an image, sending it to the other T38 fax device which then converts it back to an analogue fax signal.

In a VoIP telephone solution the gateway and the fax machine behind the gateway need to be T38 capable.  The fax machine on the analog line does not need to be T38 compliant.  The process of sending the fax over the VoIP network using T38 is transparent to it.

In wireless telephony, talk time is the total time a battery can power a phone while the telephone is used to receive or perform a call.   Because talk time requires more power, it is shorter than standby time.

Typical talk time for professional KIRK handsets is around 200 hours.
