Fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) is the trend towards seamless connectivity between fixed and wireless telecommunications networks.

The term also describes any physical network that allows cellular telephones to function with the fixed network infrastructure.

The ultimate goal of FMC is to optimise transmission of all data, voice and video communications to and among end users, no matter what their locations or devices.

FMC services rely on Dual Mode Handsets, where the customers' mobile terminal can support both the wide-area (cellular) access and the local-area technology (for VoIP).

FMC is sometimes seen as a way to reverse the trend towards fixed-mobile substitution  - the increasing tendency for consumers and businesses to substitute cellular telephones for hard-wired or cordless land line sets.

Fax over IP – sending Fax over an IP network.

MESSAGEmanager IP FAX reduces call costs, eliminates the need for multiple fax servers across an enterprise, is easier to deploy, lowers cost of ownership and is scalable to an unlimited number of users without needing to add new hardware.

Savings of up to 40% have been reported from shifting fax traffic to IP networks.

Foreign eXchange Subscriber (FXS) and Foreign eXchange Office (FXO) are the names of ports used by analogue phone lines or phones.

FXS - is the port that delivers the analogue line to the subscriber. It is the ‘plug on the wall’ that connects to the telephone.

FXO - is the port that receives the analogue line. It is the plug on the phone or fax machine, or the plug(s) on your analog phone system.

Since the FXO port is attached to a device, such as a fax or phone, the device is often called the ‘FXO device’.

Without a PBX, a phone is connected directly to the FXS port provided by a telephone company.

When a PBX is used, the phone company's analogue lines connect to the PBX and the phones are connected to the PBX.  FXO ports on the PBX connect to the FXS ports provided by the telephone company and FXS ports on the PBX connect to the phones.
