Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol  (DHCP) is a utility that enables a server to dynamically assign IP addresses from a predefined list and limit their time of use so that they can be reassigned.  Without DHCP, an IT Manager would have to manually enter in all the IP addresses of all the computers on the network. When DHCP is used, whenever a computer logs onto the network, it automatically gets an IP address assigned to it.

DHCP capable products include:

Xcelerator

Dial-In System Access or Direct Inward System Access (DISA) is a feature which allows individuals to dial in and use a firm’s telephone system from a remote location.

It enables an outside party to access the internal stations or outgoing lines of a telephone solution without having to go through an operator or automated attendant.  In some cases an optional security code may be set to prevent unauthorised access to outgoing lines for through system calling.  For example, a caller might dial an assigned number, input a security code and then use the PBX to place a long distance call or leave a voice mail message.

DISA capable products include:

Xcelerator

Digital signal processing (DSP) is concerned with the representation of the signals by a sequence of numbers or symbols and the processing of these signals.

A digital signal processor (DSP) is a specialized microprocessor with an optimised architecture for the fast operational needs of digital signal processing.

Direct Station Selection (DSS) enables a telephone user to call another station with the touch of a flexible feature button.

A Busy Lamp Field (BLF)is an array of line status lamps.  A busy lamp field allows the operator to view the status ( e.g., busy or available) of the stations.

Telephone systems which support DSS / BLF include:

Selected TalkSwitch handsets

Selected Wave Handsets

Selected Xcelerator handsets

The sounds used for touch tone dialing are referred to as Dual Tone Multiple Frequencies (DTMF) tones. Each number is represented by a pair of tones.  Each key on your phone generates two tones of specific frequencies. One is generated from a high-frequency group of tones and the other from a low frequency group.

Digital phone

A telephone that uses a digital transmission technology between the handset and the PBX rather than analogue.

A digital phone like an analogue phone is hardwired directly back to the telephone system (PBX) and does not connect to the data network (LAN, WAN etc) like an IP phone.
