Call Routing
Due to the powerful routing and processing functions on the SmartNode it is possible to use a single or multiple SmartNodes to route calls to different destinations.

Example 1: you could split your PRI line comming in between two destinations a tradtional PBX with ISDN and a soft switch based on DDI (or other parameters).

Example 2: SmartNode gateways can be linked together to provide links to other locations or to link systems.

Example 3: SmartNodes might manipulate DDI and CLI informtaion to provide a co-ordinated dial plan and least cost routing based upon the desired destination.

Media Conversion
It is possible to use VoIP as a backbone or common media format to convert from say PRI ISDN to BRI or from BRI to PRI ISDN. You might also use analogue FXO or FSX modules to break out on to the PSTN or provide FAX or modem ports for legacy analogue devices. Patton support T.38 Fax and modem traffic on VoIP links.
