Visiting ICON

The text that follows descibes how to visit ICON depeding on wether you are traveling by Car, Train or Air.

By Car

From the North via M1
Turn off the M1 at Junction 9.  At the end of the slip road take the first exit off the roundabout (signed St Albans).  Continue to follow signs to St Albans which will guide you in the following manner.  A the next round about take the 2ns exit (straight on).  A the next roundabout take the first exit (turn left) - you will pass a Shell Garage on your right. Continue straight on untill you get to the next roundabout which is on the outskirts of St Albans.  Take the first exit (left turn) and see the instructions below as described below termed "From Redbourn roundabout".

From the South via M1
Turn off the M1 at junction 6 - follow the slip road down bearing left - you will join a dual carriageway.  Continue straight on to join a round about (Junction 21a on the M25) - take the 2nd exit (straight on).  see the instructions below as described below termed "From the Thistle Hotel roundabout".

From the M25 Junction 21a
From the roundabout after the slip road take the exit sign posted "St Albans" (3rd exit from the east, 1st Exit from the West). You will reach a large white hotel on a roundabout with a Shell Petrol station opposite. Follow instructions below from the "Thistle Hotel roundabout".

From the A1 Junction 3
From the Junction 3 slip road roundabout take the A414 (West) - 1st exit from the south; 2nd exit from the North.  At the next roundabout (or half roundabout) - you will need to bear right into the middle of the road and take the 2nd left once on the other side of the carriage way - signposted "Smallford". This is kind of an elongated roundabout and you feel as though you are doubling back on yourself.  At the next roundabout go straight over (2nd exit).  At the next roundabout, go straight over (1st exit) and then the next roundabout turn right (2nd exit).  Follow the road round (bear left at the next round about) 1st exit.  At the next roundabout turn right and this road will join St Albans road.  Turn left and then first right (BT signposts).  Albright House is the first office building on the left.

From the Thistle Hotel Roundabout
At this roundabout you will see a hotel (Thistle) on your left and straight on a Shell Petrol station.  Take the first exit off the roundabout (signposted St Albans); the Shell garage will be on your right.  Continue straight on for about a mile and a half through Chiswell Green, you will cross two mini roundabouts.  At the third mini roundabout (King Harry Pub opposite) turn left (first exit).  At the next roundabout - turn right (2nd exit) and continue straight on to the Redbourn roundabout, continue straight on (2nd exit) and see the instructions below as described below termed "From Redbourn roundabout".

From the Redbourn Roundabout
At the next traffic lights continue straight on.  At the next traffic lights take the first left after a car dealer showroom and bridge - signposted Sandridge.  The road name is "St Albans" Road.  Take the 2nd left (BT signs by the road) and Albright House is the first building to be seen on the left.

From St Albans Centre
Proceed up St Peter's Street (main street) away from the Abbey. At the top of this street go straight on at the roundabout, past St Peter's church - this is signposted towards Harpenden. A few hundred yards up this road is a fork to the right at a restaurant/bar called DevDas. Take the right fork signposted Sandridge and Wheathampstead. This will lead into Sandridge Road. Proceed for around a mile to a large set of traffic lights at a bridge (William IV pub on left). Continue over this junction into St Albans Road. Take the second left (BT signs by road and Albright House is the first building on the left.

These maps share a small error - we are up the side road off St Albans Road, not on the road itself. The estate boards have BT at the top. We are the first building you come to in this small trading estate.

By Train

From Central London, St Albans Thameslink station is the closest railway station to ICON.  Trains can be caught from Kings Cross Thameslink station as well as many other stations on this line which runs from Bedford to Brighton.  Trains run from St Albans Abbey Station into Watford junction and can often be used as a link from North/South services.

By Air

Luton and Stansted airports are reasonably nearby, although Gatwick and Heathrow are also within fairly easy reach. From Luton or Gatwick you can catch the Thameslink Train service direct to St Albans Thameslink railway station. From Heathrow take the Piccadilly Line to Kings Cross and change onto the Thameslink line there. From Stanstead take the train into London and get to Kings Cross to catch the Thameslink.
